Sales Tax

FLORIDA
Hobby MonstroCity is based in Tallahassee, Florida. We are required to collect sales tax for all orders being shipped to Florida addresses. This does include Freight-Forwarding companies. If you are a tax-exempt organization or are purchasing an item for resale you must submit a valid Tax Identification number.

OTHER STATES
In the 2018 Supreme Court case South Dakota vs. Wayfair Inc, Et Al., (links opens a new window) the court overturned a previous ruling that required a merchant to have physical nexus in order for a state to collect sales tax. This means that any state is now free to enforce collection of sales taxes on out-of-state online merchants. This is called “Sales Tax Nexus” which is a fancy way of saying “significant presence in a state”.

For example:

Califorinia: California considers retailers who exceed $500,000 in taxable annual sales to have economic nexus.

South Dakota: Sales into South Dakota exceed $100,000 or 200 separate transactions.

As of July 5th, 2020, Hobby MonstroCity has NOT met Nexus for any state and hence is not required to collect and remit sales tax for any state aside from our home state of Florida.
